The Central African Republic, surrounded by Chad, Sudan, Cameroon and the Congo is divided more and more by power struggles. Whereas the corrupt government daily sends in more military troops, the country fights for its primary right to live. Young orphans who lost their parents because of Aids try to make ends meet in poor surroundings. Women are sexually abused and lose their fight for a future. Mothers with the age of 15 years are abandoned by their abusers, deprived of any hope for education. Every year 230.000 women die during or right after delivery and approximately 9 million children die before they reach their fifth anniversary. The infant mortality of children with the age of 5 years or younger is 205 per 1000 children and the estimated mother mortality rate is 24.000 yearly. The African Republic nowadays faces a real problem because pregnant women and children have to deal with HIV/AIDS. Seropositive mothers transfer the virus to the unborn during their pregnancy. Therefore the availability and accessibility of medication should be extended. Information on sex and the relationship between male and female is also a hot issue. Unfortunately the healthcare in developing countries is frequently inaccessible. Cordaid supports these groups by giving advice and collecting funds. Associations like Ahoussa, Baoro and Doaka which takes care of pregnant women and vaccination of children and associations like Sara Nbigazo and El Asam which take care of HIV/AIDS orphans make the difference in a vulnerable developing country.
